Still more running

Did a few 3 mile runs over the past few weeks and met some teammates on Saturday for a 6 mile run. It felt pretty good. I dont' remember how much time I spent out there but it doesn't really matter as it was twice as far as I had run since the marathon. My legs were a little sore on Sunday. It was pretty cold out there too.

More running

I got out on the trail twice this week. Monday I ran 3 miles and Wednesday I ran 2 miles. It felt real good. I was able to keep a 10 min per mile pace both times. My thighs hurt just a little. For the 3 mile my heart rate averaged about 163 bpm and for the two mile only about 152 bpm. The shorter distance didn't allow me to get up to the 186 max I reached on Monday. It's colder now but I'll try to get another one in on Friday. Too much stuff going on Saturday to consider running. Next I hope to get in more running.

ALESIA HICKS and ALFRED PHILLIPS

Atlanta and Ithaca, N.Y. Times: 5:51, 5:52
Doctors had told her she wouldn't be walking come race day, a result of the multiple sclerosis. But Hicks had proved them wrong. The miles, however, were taking
their toll on the lawyer -- at Mile 18 she was on the verge of quitting. Then along came Phillips, a veteran of more than 50 marathons. The retired
Cornell professor buoyed Hicks, ran alongside her and escorted her like a gentleman across the finish line. "He is a blessing," said Hicks, wrapping
her Mylar-draped arms around her new friend. "I was getting ready to quit and I prayed to the Lord and he came along. He is my angel."

First run

I did it! I made it out for another run. Let's see it's been about 11 days since the marathon. This beats the time for my previous first run after the marathon. I think my previous best was something like 5 months.

I ran about two and a half miles. It took me about 27 minutes. Instead of doing the run-walk thing I had done all year, I decided to just run. I did take about a 90 second walk break just before I turned around to run back home. I think I would prefer to practice running and leave the run-walk alone for a while.

Relapse

Man was my leg hurting yesterday. I was out at dinner and on the way back to the car it just hurt. Basically, it was relieved by taking my weight off of it so I got home and sat down immediately. I'm really not ready to tackle running again just yet. I will probably wait until next weekend before I even try to run.

Soreness gone

Finally the soreness is gone. I even feel like running again. I won't actually do any running until next week though. Yesterday, I was still having an issue with my foot but that seems to be better now.

0:15:09 per mile

It was such a great day for a run. I finished my 3rd marathon. It wasn't what I expected. Overall I'm pleased with being able to finish. Based on my overall time, it appears I could have started even slower than I did. That's always the challenge to slow down in the beginning when you feel like you could run forever at that pace.

It was great having my family out there again. Janelle walked with me for a little while after mile 21.

My stomach starting hurting somewhere after mile 18. It is still hurting the next day. I'm not sure why.

I don't think I'll do anymore post race massages. Everyone else seemed to enjoy it but it hurt to me.

I need to be able to figure out in the first quarter of a run if I should adjust my pace, so that I don't find that I overdid it early on.

I also hope to lose at least 15 pounds before the next one.
